1291 A.D. – Keir St. Hever is a powerful garrison commander for Lord Coverdale on the border of the Cumbrian vales. Whilst attending battle, he receives word that his own castle is under attack. Keir returns to Pendragon Castle to discover that his wife and daughter have been murdered, and his young son is missing. So begins Keir’s descent into hell and despair.
Three years later, Keir is still searching for his son as he is called upon to rescue the family of an ally whose castle is under siege. Once Keir fights his way inside, the damsel he is supposed to rescue does not believe he is there to assist her and a great battle ensues. But somewhere during that battle, Keir finds a strange and uncontrollable fascination with the Lady Chloe-Louise de Geld. When she’s not trying to gouge his eyes out, he catches glimpses of a woman of magnificent red hair, porcelain skin, and delicate features. And so, the love story begins….
Chloe is a much sought after beauty, brilliant, sweet and feisty. She awakens within Keir long-dormant emotions, feelings he believed died when his family perished. He doesn’t want to love Chloe but he cannot help himself. His attention should be on finding his missing son but he finds it diverted by a woman he is falling more deeply in love with by the day.
A vindictive and evil neighbor, however, who has wanted Chloe for his own, discovers St. Hever’s interest and uses lies and manipulation to convince Keir that he has Keir’s long-lost son. He proposes a trade – Chloe for the boy. Before Keir can make a decision, Chloe takes matters in to her own hands and the situation goes horribly awry.
Through death, battle, vengeful enemies and ghostly visitors, Keir and Chloe’s love remains strong and unbreakable, and in the end Keir must once again wield his sword to save the woman he loves. With flashbacks of the family he was unable to save, will he be too late?

I've learned long ago in reading my over 70 stories by this fabulous author that someone dies because that is the fact of war in any age. We have more than one person dying in this story and it is heart wrenching what our H goes through. We never learn what happens to our H because of his actions in leaving a battle. Even though you understand he had no choice, surely something would have to be done, that is the only answer that we are not given.
There is lovemaking outside of marriage, mildly described. I like some spice in my stories, and KLV writes hers perfectly. You feel the passion and it isn't about lust.
We have 3 couples who lives come together in this story and they all get HEA which was perfect. Love moves fast for all 3 couples. We are treated to no cheating, no cliffhanger and romance.
I enjoyed the relationship and companionship with all the character's. The way this author writes, she pulls you into their lives. You can feel their exhaustion trying to reach their designation.
There are a couple of villains and I enjoyed how they are dealt with. In my opinion you can't go wrong with this author's stories. She is one of the few author's that I pre-order without reading reviews first. (ljb)

Fragments of Grace Book One to the Dragonblade Series edition by Kathryn Le Veque Romance eBooks Reviews
I never like it when the hero has been in love before, especially if he is deeply grieving over a dead wife. However, I have enjoyed so much the others books I have read from this author that I decided to take a chance, and I am so glad I did. I was very pleased the way Ms. Le Veque dealt with the situation and I was very caught up in the story. True, there is no sense or rhyme to the hero having to go to battle no matter what, and then deserting (regardless of his motives). Not only only does he do not suffer any consequences for his desertion, but the matter is never addressed again or even mentioned. But I did not minded. I can suspend belief and put up with a lot, if the hero is as focus as Keir was with the heroine, making her his very top priority. What I did mind was how emotional he was about everything. I am partial to a hero who is only emotionally vulnerable with the heroine, such as Gaston in "The Dark One". And I know I am been extremely picky with my next objection, but I also minded that at the beginning of their relationship he was playing hard to get, but luckily (for me) it was very brief.
However, the main reason I did not give this book 5 stars was the ending. In my opinion this story badly needed an epilogue. The reason I read romance books is to escape the gloom of daily living,. After I finish a story I like to be left with an up-lifting feeling, not the oppresive sadness I felt as I read the last few pages of this book. And yet despite it all I loved "Fragments of Grace".
This book started out great, with tons of action, great character development, tenderness, humor, and sympathy for the characters. Unfortunately, towards the end of the book, it seemed that the character development for the heroine - Lady Chloe-Louise de Geld - came to a standstill when she decides to take matters into her own hands, regarding Ingilby, the vindictive and evil neighbor of hers. She took action - not once, but twice- with both actions leading to unfortunate repercussions for everyone and, most especially, for herself. I enjoy a good story with a great heroine who is smart, witty, intelligent, and strong emotionally but Chloe does not really seem to be it, even though she seems to have a pleasant personality. After those actions of hers, she seemed fickle, foolish and extremely unthinking to me. It was extremely hard for me to finish reading the book after that but I did, just to see what happens in the end.
Overall, the book was good with the appropriate disposal of the enemy, the strong bonds between friends and family, undying love between the newly formed couples in the book and, most especially, with the mystery solved in the end with what happened to Merritt St. Hever, Keir's son. Chloe's character had a slight redemption in the end when she helped resolve that particular mystery. I initially wanted to give the book 3 stars but I enjoyed Fragments of Grace for the most part, especially with the character development of Keir, regardless of my disappointment with the heroine.
If I had my way, I would've set up Lady Summer de Moray, the daughter of an old friend - Sir Garran de Moray - with Keir. To me, she seems to have a great set of skills, interests and hobbies, vice that of Chloe who seems to have none. Add those skills on top of a super-pleasant personality and it seems like she is made for Keir who is also made of great stuff. This was finely written for the most part, so 4 stars- A+++.
