Editorial Review
“In this first installment of Sutter’s new series, heroine Jade Monroe has just completed FBI training and is assigned to help track down a serial killer in the Houston area. As bodies accumulate, the agents learn that each victim’s death involved a cement block, and their job is to figure out why. The smart, risk-taking heroine that readers came to admire in Sutter’s previous Jade Monroe novels is back and in rare form, and the stakes have never been higher, especially when Jade makes a rash decision that threatens to end her FBI career when it’s barely begun. The action never slows down in this book, a wild romp of a thriller that Sutter fans will find deeply satisfying.” Angela M., Editor, Red Adept Editing

Just below average for me..

Premise: Our heroine Jade Monroe has been promoted to the FBI homicide division in Wisconsin. She had currently been a sergeant in the Sheriff's Department prior to this. Gruesome murders are popping up in Houston, TX and there is always one element involved within these murders: cement. This leads the local authorities to believe there is a serial killer loose, prompting a cry for help to the Wisconsin FBI homicide department. Jade and her partner J.T. go three to hunt this killer down.

Premise sounds good right? Here is where I had issues with this story:

Jade gets a fast pass into the FBI because of nepotism (her dad knew a guy high up who put her through training super fast and recommended her). I was willing to overlook this, but she actually proves to be pretty inept. She goes after a lead she potentially knew would have dangerous outcomes and did it by herself. OF COURSE it goes badly and the FBI is simultaneously trying to keep this killer from claiming his/her next victim and looking for their now absent rookie agent. It just completely turned me off on her character as a whole and I didn't believe she was ready or qualified for the FBI despite the author's insistence that she was some hot shot.

I also had an issue with the reasoning behind this killer's motives. I liked the idea behind it, but the killer's character needed to be fleshed out more to really let your readers believe he or she was capable of committing these awful crimes.

The writing was clear and concise (no gripes there), but I found parts lagging behind a bit-- the plot would get halted and sunken down with lengthy and arguably useless information. It almost came across to me like the author was stalling to make a longer length novel. I actually paged ahead a couple of times and didn't miss any crucial information.

2 star rating because 1.) Did not live up to its premise, 2.) The heroine and her position as an amazing FBI agent was not believable at all 3.) lack of killer's character development.

Snapped An Agent Jade Monroe FBI Thriller Book 1 eBook CM Sutter Reviews

After completing FBI training, former sheriff’s deputy, Jade Monroe, is assigned to a midwestern office of the bureau. When a series of murders in Houston, TX cause local authorities to think they have a serial killer stalking their streets, Jade and her partner, J.T. Harper are dispatched to assist them in apprehending the person responsible for some really gruesome crimes.
The list of victims continues to grow as Jade and J.T. work tirelessly to identify the perpetrator. Jade goes against the common wisdom—that the killer is male—and insists that they are looking for a woman. When she identifies a potential suspect, she makes herself a target, and is taken hostage. The clock, at that point, really starts ticking as J.T. and the bureau pull out all the stops to recover her. But, Jade has her own cards to play.
Snapped by C.M. Sutter is book one in the Agent Jade Monroe FBI thriller series. It is fast-paced, with all the hallmarks of good mystery writing. The reader is given all the information up front, the mystery being, can Jade stop the killer before she herself becomes a victim. The action in this story takes place against the backdrop of Jade’s search for the man who killed her father, a highly-respected policeman himself.
This a series to keep an eye on.
There are so many things wrong with this book it’s hard to know where to begin. The first half of the book is interesting and well paced. The problems develop in the last half. As an experienced police officer who went through FBI training she should have known that a search warrant is issued for a specific property including any buildings and outbuildings on the property. There is no such thing as going on to private property to have a look. So by entering the property and seizing the cinder block she committed an illegal search and seizure. Secondly the police never need a search warrant to question a suspect so the suspect could have been brought in for questioning. When the suspect was questioned and acted suspiciously the agent should have asked for the name of the sister and the hospital. Too bad the story fell apart after such a solid opening.
C.M. Sutter keeps delivering and the bad guys keep coming! The newly minted FBI agent, Jade Monroe is knee deep in Houston trying to figure out who the latest killer is, and as always, she puts herself dead center in harm's way to solve the case. A few surprise situations made the book that much better! Loved it!
I really enjoyed the first 60% of this book. It had real potential.

Then, the main character makes a laughably terrible decision, and ends up completely short-circuiting the FBI inquiry into total chaos. Then, instead of being summarily fired for such a stupid decision, she is allowed to go home, shower, and then lead a raid. Just ridiculous. Where was the editor?
Awful, needs a good edit. She pressed the buton for the elevator, waites for the elevator, the doors open, she steps in then turns around then pushes the button for the 3rd floor the doors close and she waites while the elevator rose watching the floor numbers change. The doors open on the 3rd floor, she steps out. For goodness sake she caught the elevator to the 3rd floor. We all know how an elevator works. The book is chock full of minute detail of every activity, it is tedious to read and I gave up very quickly. Life is too short and there are so many, better written, books to read.
