Where do dreams end and reality start? Are they part of the same circle, or totally separate? Does reality end with death? Chad needs to find the answers quickly. He has seen the girl he loves only in dreams, and he is dying. Despite others’ ridicule, he believes that if he is dreaming of her world at death, then he will remain with her. Life is never that simple. He dreams of two worlds alternately. One is harsh, and he always dies quickly without ever seeing the girl. The other is also harsh, but rebels fight for freedom and he only wakes when killed during their battles. Not only must he die on Earth while dreaming of the correct world, but he must survive to help the rebels gain freedom, and hopefully win Julia’s love. One other obstacle, apart from his clumsiness and fear of fighting, is Ned. He is also dying, and the oppressive rulers have promised him eternal life and riches if he stops Chad from aiding the rebels by killing him on Earth.
The Life Pool is an emotional roller-coaster of sadness, humour, hate, love, romance and adventure.

The Life Pool eBook Alan G Brown

I downloaded this because at the time it was the highest charting free book with no reviews. As ever, I'll give my honest opinion. This isn't a paid review or a fake, it's just my thoughts.

I have to admit that I struggled through this story. Although it is well formatted and contains very few typos, there's not a lot of exposition to help the reader understand the worlds that are being described. In the first chapter, the lead character gets caught up in a firefight, but there's little explanation as to why. I understand this is to create an air of mystery and tension but I felt the balance and pacing was off. It would work on-screen but the writing wasn't strong enough to draw me in and keep me interested. The dialogue was generally good which is important to me, but this still felt like a near miss. The premise was also really interesting. I think the author should work through this story with a good story editor because this could be a great book with a little more work.

Overall I feel like this is a near miss. A rewrite and overall polish would create a much stronger book. I hope the author doesn't take this as a negative criticism as it's not meant to be one.
